Anyone who’s dealt with scientific literature before knows the struggle all too well. Navigating that world is far from the easiest task in a MedTech professional’s day. For many of our Flinn users, literature searches are just the first hurdle. First hurdle? That’s right, because once you’ve found the paper you need, the real trouble starts: Is it paywalled? Has someone in your organization already purchased it? Who has the purchasing rights? What about licenses?
In short: The process of acquiring paid scientific literature is often cumbersome, fragmented, and prone to error. What should be a quick, routine task often turns into a maze of manual steps, unclear permissions, and frustrating delays.
That’s exactly where our new integration with Mira comes in!
We’re excited to announce that our Literature Solution now includes an embedded purchasing and license-handling feature, built in partnership with Mira. It’s designed to remove the friction from literature procurement, making it more efficient, easier to use and fully compliant.
Meet Mira: Expertise Meets Simplicity
Founded in 2002, Mira is a SaaS provider specializing in literature and knowledge management. With clients like Airbus and Johnson & Johnson, they bring deep experience in highly regulated industries, and offer enterprise-ready solutions for:
Document and license management
Global literature procurement
Enterprise purchasing workflows
Cross-database metadata search (via their in-house technology, eSearch)
At the helm of Mira is Petra Hauschke, who combines a background in pharma and regulatory affairs with two decades of digital innovation. Under her leadership, the company has embraced a clear mission: to simplify complexity and make scientific literature accessible without the usual administrative hurdles and confusion.
How exactly does the integration work within the Literature Module?
Slow and fragmented purchasing workflows, duplicate purchases due to lack of transparency, unclear licensing terms across global teams, and constant platform-switching just to access a single paper: The new integration is built to address exactly these challenges seamlessly and directly within Flinn.
When users come across a publication that isn’t publicly available, Flinn now gives them the option to purchase it directly within the interface:
Step 1: Users can instantly see within Flinn whether a document they’ve found through search has already been purchased.
Step 2: If not, the user can proceed with one click and Mira takes care of licensing, compliance, and delivery.
Step 3: Once processed, the document becomes available directly inside Flinn, ready to review and tag.
No extra accounts. No copy-paste. No compliance guessing game.
“From the very first conversation with Petra, we were not only convinced by Mira’s 20 years of expertise in managing complex literature purchases, we also immediately recognized a strong cultural fit, shaped by the entrepreneurial drive of the entire team.”
— Markus Müller, Co-Founder at Flinn.ai

Designed for Regulated Environments
What makes this integration stand out is its convenience and the level of trust and operational quality behind it: Mira is capable of handling even the most “exotic” literature requests from across the globe, and currently covers 99.9 % of all scientific publications worldwide. Whether it’s a common paper or a niche document buried in a national archive, Mira can deliver it licensed, tracked, and properly routed.
“At Mira, we believe in simplifying complexity. With Flinn, we found a partner who understands the regulatory world and brings it into efficient digital workflows.”
— Petra Hauschke, CEO at Mira.Digital GmbH
Outlook: A Smarter Future for Literature Workflows
The first version of our integration is now live in the Literature Solution, and we’re proud to finally share this update with our Flinn users! That said, we’re already looking ahead with exciting ideas that we’re eager to give you a first glimpse of right here.
Coming Soon - Here’s What We’re Building Next:
Approval Workflows & Budget Controls: Admins will be able to allocate budgets, define purchasing permissions, and introduce multi-level approvals, all within Flinn.
Custom License Models: Organizations with existing publisher contracts can apply their own pricing structures and licensing terms.
Expanding Content Types: In the future, Mira will also offer access to standards and regulatory documents, which will be seamlessly integrated into Flinn’s Regulatory Monitoring module.
Final Thoughts
To sum this up, here’s a quick overview of how the Mira integration addresses common challenges:

With this partnership, we’re bringing simplicity, reliability, and regulatory confidence into one of the most overlooked but essential parts of the MedTech workflow.
Dear Flinn Users, we’re looking forward to hearing your feedback!
